A traditional English game rather like conkers: everyone takes a hard-boiled egg and pairs up with another player. One person holds her egg in the palm of her hand, while the other 'taps' it. Take turns tapping until one egg cracks - the winning egg is called a 'cock of one'. The player with the 'cock of one' goes on to play another player to try and become a 'cock of two' and so on. This is a real game of skill: as frustration mounts the tendency is to crack too hard and smash your own egg instead of your opponent's.
A gentler version is to hold an egg in your clenched fist while your opponent taps the back of your hand, trying to leave his egg intact while breaking yours. |
