In Sweden we don't get our trees until December 24, which is also when we have our Christmas meal - and then we have a visit from the Christmas Gnome, with his sack of presents. We were told that he lived under the house and looked after us all for the rest of the year. The tree stays with us until January 13, which is Knuts Day, by the way, and was always watered. |

There is a wee bit of tension in our house about when to "deck the halls". I like it done as late as possible and everyone else likes it done as early as possible. Also I like a little tree but everyone else likes a monster specimen which threatens to take up the whole room. This year we have the ideal compromise - a tree which is as tall as the room will allow, but beautifully slim and elegant so it doesn't elbow you everytime you pass. My kids find putting up the decorations is one of the best bits of the season and can now do it much more skilfully than me - payback for letting them help clumsily when they were smaller. |

What lovely pictures - they make me want to dash out with my secateurs at once! But I agree - the Christmas decorations seems to come out earlier and earlier each year. I'm not buying my tree until the 22nd so am just hoping some nice ones are left. This year we're doing a mini-tree to stand on a table - quite a departure as we normally have a 10 footer, and we'll dot any left-over baubles around the children's bedrooms... |
